Matthew 23:8 “Don’t let anyone call you ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters. 9 And don’t address anyone here on earth as ‘Father,’ for only God in heaven is your Father. 10 And don’t let anyone call you ‘Teacher,’ for you have only one teacher, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you must be a servant. 12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses. 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden.
Jesus did not teach His Disciples what the Pharisees was teaching the people, because He criticized many of their beliefs. He tells us to obey the teachings of our Spiritual Leaders whenever they accurately interpret the Scripture. Jesus also was against the use of honorific titles that encourage a sense of superiority. Because He wanted the people to worship God not man, like a lot of people do; they worship their Pastors, more than they worship God. Now we have all these different religions and beliefs because man has implied their beliefs about who we should follow.
Father, I am not sure where religion comes from, but I am a believer and I know You exist, so Lord, we pray that we all only receive that which is of You. Father, we practice many beliefs and religions, but one thing for sure; even those we follow are looking for You. So, we pray that when we study, search our heart and mind and remove all that is not of You, so Your Word will transform us into the people You created. Father, fill us with Your Spirit so You can use us to reach others. Father, teach us how to study Your Word and help us understand Your parables; so we may receive Your wisdom and the knowledge to implement You in our lives. Father, give us discernment when we are learning and hearing Your Word, so we can determine what is good and of You. Father, teach us how and what to pray for, let the Spirit intercede on our behalf when we know not what to say, in Jesus name, Amen
