FORGIVE SO WE CAN LIVE

Genesis 50:15When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.” 16So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before your father died he commanded, saying, 17‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.” ’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”  19Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? 20But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. 21Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

Sometimes the evil that our so-called friends commit against us, can actually be for our benefit.  So often God's goodness comes disguised as pain, a crisis, a loss, a break-up, or betrayal.

Father, help us understand the importance of forgiveness especially family members.  Lord, let us understand when children of God insist on quarreling with each other, we do not reflect the Christ-like character in us.  Father, there is nothing that You will not forgive us for, so we too must forgive others no matter what wrong they caused us.  Lord, help us show Your love and forgiveness in our action to those that wronged us.  Father, let us forgive readily, so our service to all will be possible even our enemies.   Jesus, thank You, for forgiving us and dying in our place so we could have a relationship with our Father.  It is Your name that we pray, Amen
