When the roots of a tree are dry from lack of nourishment, the tree will not develop fruit and it will eventually die. The same thing happens when we are not rooted in the Word of God, we receive no nourishment; so we do not develop fruit, and our soul's withers and die. Just as we cut down dead trees that do not bear fruit; the Lord will punish those who fail to produce fruit, because there is no true repentance. According to John and Jesus teachings fruit represent works that result from a miraculous inner transformation
Matthew 7:15-20 15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit, you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit, you will recognize them.
Father, thank You, for the sacrifice of Your only Son; so we could be baptized with the Holy Spirit that helps us bear fruit through inner transformation. Lord, we understand the gate is small and the road is narrow that leads to true life; and we know only a few people will find that road, order our steps to Your path. Lord, let us be heavily rooted in the Word that gives us discernment so we will be careful not to get lost with false prophets. Lord, fill our heart with the things of the Spirit so we will be deeply rooted in the Word, and Eager to do good work. in Jesus name, Amen
