Ruth 3: 9“ I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer of our family.” 10 “The LORD bless you, my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. 11 And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character. 12 Although it is true that I am a guardian-redeemer of our family, there is another who is more closely related than I
Naomi life was filled with tragedy, pain, and sorrow; she lost her husband and both her sons. Naomi life circumstances had made her feel empty, sad, and bitter; like our life situation sometimes do. Sometimes suffering and trials make us soft and weak and sometimes suffering and trails make us cynical and hard. When believers are broken and wounded, they become meek and mild; because we depend on God too, fix it. But, unbelievers are made cynical and hard, they become bitter, unkind, and harsh in their treatment of others. But the Kindness and gentleness of Ruth, Naomi daughter-in-law help her get through her suffering and pain by her goodness that manifests in many ways.
Ruth and Naomi's relationship grow stronger through their fellowship of suffering. They had gone through the pain of widowhood together and they cling to each other through the black mantle of death. Even though Naomi had set Ruth free to return to her family, Ruth stayed with Naomi and remained loyal to the path she had chosen. Love as strong and dedicated as Ruth is rare, and hard to find; the kind of love that always results in service to others. The love and trust between Naomi and Ruth resulted in Ruth becoming Boaz wife; Ruth goodness produced a harvest of blessings not only for her but for Naomi as well.
Father, send us a friend that will be loyal to us like Ruth was to Naomi, let us exhibit the same goodness and love; when we face hardship or suffering. Father, let us not abandon those who are grieving, sick, or broken; but give us a kind and compassioned heart towards their needs. Lord, help us treat all people as we wish to be treated; and let not our selfish ambition guide us. Lord, forgive us if we have betrayed anyone that considered themselves our friend and let us not only think of ourselves. Father, examine our hearts and fill it with the same quality of love, goodness, and kindness exhibited by Ruth to Naomi, in Jesus name, Amen
