FATHER TEACH US HOW TO FAST

Lent gives us an opportunity to fast for 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday to Easter (observed mostly by the Roman Catholic, Eastern, and some Protestant Churches, and other Churches, as a period of fasting; ).  But, why do most people think that fasting means, not eating, Jesus fast from eating because; He was without sin; so there was nothing else to give up.  We, on the other hand, have many things that separate us from God, that we need to give up.  I think Lent, is the perfect time for believers to fast 40 days, as Jesus did for us; from something that takes us out of His character, and if we know the Word (the TRUTH of the Word) we know what demons we are fighting.   Lent, gives us an opportunity to pray, study, and worship; away from the sins that separate us from God, and an opportunity to show sorrow and regret having done wrong.  I have to fast from a sin that I commit, fornication; sometimes I will be obedient for years, then I backslide, so I never judge anyone.  I spend most of my time judging myself, trying to keep myself right.  But, during Lent, it's Christ-like for forty days and nights; but, we should do a straight 40 day fast.  God, wants us to fast from the things of the flesh, things like adultery, fornication, sexual immorality, murder, stealing; whatever demon we are fighting, because we all have one.  Romans 3:10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; so everyone has a sin to have deep regret and sorrow for, so the next time we think about fastings, fast from what separates us from God.

Jesus tells us to fast in secret and not for show.  If we fast to be seen of men, then we already have our reward.  Matthew 6:17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”  We are not to discuss fasting with others, we are not to go around looking tired; so others will know, this is about us humbling ourselves to God's will for 40 days and nights.

Father, Your, love is sufficient and reliable enough to convict and correct those who choose to hear; those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.  Lord, we ask for deliverance from whatever demons we are fighting that keeps us from You; please set us free, in Jesus' name.  Father, we know You keep Your promise, but sometimes we get weary of doing good; give us Your strength when we are weak, and Your kindness and gentleness when we are strong.  Lord, give us Your courage so that we will spread the good news; to our families, friends, and our enemies, to draw them near to Thee.  Father, help us understand the more we fast from what separates us from You; the more we are filled with the Spirit and the stronger our faith becomes.  Lord, let us be the head and not the tail, victorious and not the victim. Father teaches us how to pray for each other; and work to pull each other up, sharing each other's burdens. So, help us to work in unity; because two or three are better than one, as we work together to build Your Kingdom.  Father, teach us how to fast from the things that cause us pain and sorrow, as Your Word helps us in our journey.   Lord, I pray for everyone who asked me for prayer; Lord, You, know their needs and wants, strengthen their faith and help them with their unbelief, and bless them according to Your will, in Jesus name, we pray, Amen
