FEAR GOD OR PERISH

The word fear is usually associate it with a threat or a negative experience.  We use to fear our parents and the punishment we would receive for acting out, or we feared to be the diminishment in front of our peers. And yet, throughout Scripture, it speaks of the benefits of “Fearing the Lord.”  As we may already know, the word “fear” has different senses or meanings.  Fear is a feeling of reverence, awe, and respect, fear can be healthful when it is directed toward God.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.  The fear of the Lord is an awaking that we are in the presence of a Holy and just God and that He will hold us accountable for our motives, thoughts, words, and actions.  Most children and some adult today do not fear the Lord, and when we do not fear the Lord, it is harmful to our existence and our Souls. As children, we were taught about the wrath of God, which in turn made us more obedient to our parents and the Lord; because we feared what our parents or God might do to us.  Now children do not fear their parents and most of them do not know God, so they do not fear Him.

Psalms 34: 9 O fear the LORD, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want. 10 The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, But they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing.…

Father, help us understand "to fear You is to desire to live in harmony with You; and to honor You in all that we do".  Lord, because of our sinful nature we do not intentionally seek to honor You; but to pursue the flesh and our selfish desires, so please help us develop Fruit so that we will energetically seek and desire the things of the Spirit.  Father, give us a Christ-like character so we will discover the joy of knowing and loving You.  Lord, help us teach our children about You, so they too can feel the joy and peace of Your grace.  Lord, give them guidance and protection, and order their steps in Your will; give the wisdom and knowledge of Your Word, so they will choose to follow You.  Lord, forgive us for not passing Your Word to the next generation, please save our children from the snares of this dark world, and draw them near to You.  In Jesus name, Amen
